How I Stay Healthy

Now don’t be fooled by the title and think I am a fitness/health guru I am more of an amateur. I say this because I so often loose track due to my busy life. I’m kind of tired of that being an excuse for me but it’s the reality! Time to change that though.

I’ve realized that I still have not lost that 10-15 lbs I gained from my summer travels which is horrible considering it is March and we are nearly close to another summer ūüėĒ. Therefore I thought I really need to get serious now!

So when I do stay fit I implement the following habits. They help me slim down, stay healthy and in shape.

Foods

1. Water

Make it your best friend! 1.5 – 2L a day with lemon and cucumber and sometimes mint. It makes a major difference believe me I’ve seen it in myself. When I don’t consume as much water my skin changes (my face is not as radiant and gets oily) and my body feels heavier it’s not a good feeling. Veggies included or not make sure water is part of your lifestyle.

2.Green Tea

First thing in the morning and last thing at night to clear the toxins. Green tea is beneficial to your health in many ways as it helps clear build up. It contains various bio active compounds such as powerful antioxidants substance like Vitamin C/E which help improve your general health. Green tea helps improve brain function, increase fat burning, and improves physical performance and assist in killing bacteria, lowers the risk of Alzheimer, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes amongst many other advantages.

3. Flax Seeds

I put this ish on everything. Legit! Just sprinkle some on your rice, salad, eggs, pasta, basically everything and this pack lasts me months at least six! It is very rich in micro-nutrients, fiber, and high in omega-3 (more than salmon) and antioxidants. It is low in carbs, cholesterol, gluten free and great for weight loss. Best of all it helps your digestive system as it cleanses waste out Рsimply awesome!

4.Oats

Rolled oats is amazing for breakfast! It is low in calories(helps stop cravings), fats, rich in fiber, and contains several minerals like manganese, phosphorus, and zinc to name a few. In addition it helps stabilizes your blood sugar, removes bad cholesterol, and reduces the risk of diabetes, heart disease, breast as well as other hormone dependent cancers.

I add oats with banana slices, cinnamon, with milk for breakfast or with yogurt as a snack.

5.Almonds

Almonds are a great snack! High in vitamins like biotin thickens hair and nails plus enhances your skin, along with vitamin E antioxidant that remove free radicals along with many more beneficial¬†nutrients. Almonds help reduce the risk of ¬†Alzheimer’s,¬†heart attack,, high blood pressure, and lowers cholesterol. They are great in brain development, building strong bones and teeth, aiding in weight loss, and nourishing the nervous system. ¬†Expensive but well worth its benefits, much over a chocolate bar!

Exercise

I don’t go hard core with workouts and routines but I apply the following in order to stay active and fit.

1.Jog/Run/Walk

I use Nike Run (free app) to stay motivated and on track. It allows me to view my running distance as it maps out my route. I am able to connect with friends and create challenges, highly recommend!

My route is a little over 6 km and includes uphill and downhill endurance so it’s perfect. However with the Canadian weather I’m limited to only the bearable ¬†seasons so from March – October leaving me with four months of indoor workouts. I don’t mind the gym but getting me to do 6 km in loops is so hard – going around in constant circles gives me a headache. So I stick to the machines!

2.Cardio

¬†I enjoy using Nike Training¬†(free app) because it allows me to select specific workouts at my preferred level. Like Nike Run¬†you can connect with your friends and challenge each other to stay motivated. This is perfect for those days you don’t feel like going to the gym.

Fortunately for me through my employer I receive a free staff membership therefore I get the privilege of working out at a gym. Although you don’t necessarily need to attend a gym. Jogging running and walking along with at home cardio is good enough to help you stay active.

So I believe it is vital to do both eat healthy and stay active in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. What works for me may not work for you but find what works and implement it into your daily lives. I’m a sucker for carbs and sweets(the worst¬†combo I knowūüė©), so I give myself one day a week to indulge in these foods but do so within limit!

Peace and love,

Widaad
